Dynamica - The Open Source Bullet Physics Plugin for Maya

Dynamica is a Maya plugin based on the open source Bullet Physics framework. Originally developed at Disney Animation Studios, the toolset has been enhanced with additional features and art direction friendly workflows. I joined the project as a developer in October 2010 and presented the new features at the Siggraph 2011 session titled Destruction and Dynamics for Film and Game Production. Second Wind - Animated Short Film

Second Wind was screened at the 2011 Dam Short Film Festival. The animation is set to a musical composition titled "When I Wonder" by Bartois, which is distributed under a BY-NC-ND Creative Commons license. In keeping with this spirit of generosity, Second Wind is also distrubuted under the same license.

The film seeks subtleties of timing and narrative rather than fast action and relentless intercuts. It is partly an experiment in abstract animation and the use of vague imagery in storytelling.

Production involved processing video footage, rotoscoping, traditional hand-drawn animation, 3D cloth simulation in Maya, plus animation and sequencing in Flash.
